Final highlights of the spring sports season include the efforts of the Boys Tennis team. They were pronounced co-champions of the Hudson Valley Athletic League along with the Harvey School. This is their second league championship in the last three years. In addition, the team was invited to the New England tournament for the third year in a row, drawing a match with the Darrow School, a team we had previously beaten. The match was supposed to be on the Marvelwood campus, but the threat of rain caused us to move it to indoor courts in Torrington. Unfortunately, the team could not repeat their previous success and lost 3-6. Nevertheless, congratulations to Coach Bingham and the members of the squad for a great 2008 campaign.
For the first time ever, the Girls Tennis team was invited to play in the Milton Academy Girls Tennis Invitiational. We were the only small school from western New England invited to play. Most of the other schools participating were large schools, but our girls held their own. In the end, we beat three other schools on points, earning the respect of all those present. Congratulations to Coach Banach and the players for all of their hard work and dedication.
For the first time ever, there was an All-Star Game on the Marvelwood campus. The Division III Boys Lacrosse All-Stars were invited to play a game against each other. Players from eleven schools, thirty-nine in all, played on the cloudy Sunday morning of Alumni Weekend. A host of parents and friends attended as well, making it a rather big event indeed. Marvelwood players Steve Conti and Eun Sung Bang participated, and they represented the school well. I intend to have this game at Marvelwood every year.
Thanks to all of the athletes who made this season a memorable one!
